She could have put the plant in a infuser like you do for tea and then heat
it in a clear container on low or medium not to boiling, then shut off the
heat and let cool. The oils will float on top for extraction . Kind of like
making chicken stock where all the stock floats to the top to make our
What is left in her pan is mostly water with a little bit of oil on top
that has to be separated again anyway.

Hi SammyLouise, I must say that I like your method of extracting the oils
from the plant matter. However, storing the oil in tin and alluminum is not
really the best way to go because you are addiding toxic metals into the
oils. when you shown the other oils that you made ( Myrrh and Pine ) and
having them in glass is a much better only because no toxins will be
collected by the essential oils. Other than that, Great Job!

I tried this, and all I get is water, oil doesn’t seem to separate from the
vaporized water, any tips??? thanks!

little piece of herb will not return that much oil…

So, if you put a glass pie pan on top of a soup can allowing you room to
add more herbs & water to the pan (yet keeping the water/plant mix just to
the bottom/middle of the pie pan to avoid condensation under the pie pan,
or boil-over into the pie pan) & put ice on the inverted (sealed) lid, you
could potentially make enough hydrosol in one batch that if frozen could be
separated into its oil & water components (w/out potentially introducing
aluminum to the mix), right?
